The Right Honourable Lord Carloway has been appointed as the new Lord President of the Court of Session and will automatically become Chair of the Council once installed early in the new year.
The appointment was announced by the First Minister.
The vacancy arose following the retirement of the Right Honourable Lord Gill as head of Scotland’s judiciary in May earlier this year.
